Three inflatable pavilions, each having a specific function, were specially commissioned for Sonsbeek buiten de perken. Besides the Information Pavilion, an air supported semi-sphere covered with sythetic grass, and the Video Studio, a tensile structure streched over three large air-inflated arches, there was a two-level air-supported Auditorium. The foyer on the ground level had a circular transparent wall and its ceiling, which constituted the floor for the second level, was ballasted by many sandbags. A spiral staircase took the visitors upstairs to the second level where they could sit on the soft air-supported floor around a small stage. But the functionality of this structure was often put in question by the audience's preference for jumping around on the inflatable floor. The yellow-domed roof could also be removed to create an 'open-air' theatre.
