Description
As part of a public art commission, Olga Kisseleva installed a digital artwork in the patio of the Tulle mediathèque. "CrossWorlds Proverbs" is a composition of electronic tags based on proverbs on the subject of knowledge.
The electronic tag is a matrix style barcode in the form of a square symbol made up of dots or juxtaposed squares. The passer-by who looks at the artwork through the camera of his/her telephone receives a message in real time, which might be textual, sound-based or visual. During the day, the light on the ground of the patio is off; elements of the artwork are decorative as there's a metallic "lacework" to it. During the night, the light is lit; visitors then discover the luminous frieze composed of the electronic tags. The use of tags has a strong symbolic value, but also a social dimension: it's a new language that's becoming common. With its universality and its discreet presence, it's an extremely symbolic visual form, as it can also become a powerful tool of information and communication
