Description
I developed a set of four interactive, room-based exhibits for the 'Planets and Beyond' area at the GSC:
- Discover the Stars: Visitors move around, holding small white boards in their hands. At specific spots they are tracked by sensors that trigger projections of astronomical objects down from the ceiling onto their screens - they 'discover' the stars.
- Jump-Plate: Visitors step on a platform that measures constantly the applied vertical force. When they jump, the force profile gets sampled and a set of key-parameters are calculated in real time: the total energy of the jump, its height and the time when the jumping person will reach the highest point of the trajectory. At that moment a digital image is taken of him/her.
- Planets: This multimedia terminal explains all planets of the solar system. The customized way to select a planet is to put one of nine planet-shaped disks onto a central spot. The further navigation is done with an oversized trackball that also resembles the planets’ round shape.
- Gravity on the Moon: In this purely mechanical exhibit Visitors can experience their weight on the moon. It is based on a slider that runs on tracks up and down a flat ramp.
