Description
Framework is a kinetic light sculpture constituted by five modules. Each of these modules is constituted of 5 horizontal and 5 vertical square elements, establishing a grid of 5x5x5 =125 frames. This resolution writing is present in the project title indicating its actual presentation format in terms of its ‘frame’ resolution.

Each of these 125 frames contains another frame; a square rotating around its central vertical axis, which itself contains another frame, a square rotating around its central horizontal axis. This nested principle of a frame in a frame in a frame forms 125 static and 250 kinetic frames together forming the 10m long and 2m high lumino-kinetic sculpture.

On one side the frames are lacquered white, diffusing the light, while the other side is lacquered black, absorbing light. The motorized frames allow a black side to be turned on the white side and the other way round. The achieved black-white contrast allows the display of geometric patterns and graphic signs. The 5x5 matrix of each module originates in the minimum resolution for alphabetic and numeric displays which by this fact extends the sculpture to a binary flip-board. In this manner the installation proposes during day binary states between black / white, open / closed and static / rotating all flooded in a sonic ambiance created by 250 servo motors.
