Description
Four Stories with a Twist is an algorithmically generated ‘music video’ with an original music score and script. The script is based on Albert Camus’ The Stranger and takes place in contemporary Paris. The music was written for a jazz ensemble and algorithmically manipulated to create an ever evolving musical progression.

Four Stories with a Twist consists of specially designed software application for mobile camera phones and rendering and mixing software for live synthesis of incoming imagery and text, programmatically animated by the musical rhythm of the original composition.

Four Stories with a Twist was first shown at the Villette Numérique festival in Paris in 2004. During the course of the exhibition local participants equipped with mobile camera phones would send picture messages from around Paris directly to the live generated ‘music video’ in the exhibition space. The day by day unfolding story would evolve based on the incoming messages. The volume of incoming messages and interconnectedness of the participants would also impact the unfolding narrative.
