Brian Mackern (Uruguay) is a new media artist, developer and designer of digital and hybrid net based art projects since 1995. Musician, composer and developer of autogenerative and reactive sound visual structures and environments. His art practice delves into areas defined by memories and remembrance, alternative representation of localization, urban geographies and cartographies, noise, remix, glitch and data bending. His work, mainly concerned with processes and structures which go across digital and real environments, explore interface design, soundtoy creations, digital transpositions of representation, image/sound objects, real time video-data animations, netart and soundart. He has presented his work and given workshops and lectures throughout Latin America and Europe. His work has been exhibited at major international art festivals and received recognition from numerous institutions.

Brian Mackern (Uruguay), es desarrollador y diseñador de proyectos artísticos digitales e híbridos basados en la red desde 1995. Músico, compositor y creador de estructuras y entornos autogenerativos y reactivos sonoro-visuales. Su práctica artística indaga en esferas definidas por los recuerdos y la rememoración, la representación alternativa de la localización, las geografías y cartografías urbanas, el ruido, las mezclas, el glitch y el data bending. Su trabajo, principalmente relacionado con procesos y estructuras que atraviesan el entorno digital y el real, explora el diseño de interfaces, la creación de juguetes sonoros, las transposiciones digitales de la representación, los objetos visuales/sonoros, las animaciones de video y datos en tiempo real, el netart y el arte sonoro. Ha presentado su obra y ofrecido talleres y conferencias por toda América Latina y Europa. Su trabajo se ha exhibido en los principales festivales de arte y recibido reconocimientos de numerosas instituciones.

His art practice usually addresses areas defined by memories and remembrance, alternative representation of localization, urban geographies and cartographies, noise, remix, glitch and data moshing/intertweening. His works, mainly concerned in processes and structures that crosses digital and real environments, explore interface-design, random events, soundtoy creations, digital transpositions of representation, image-sound objects, real time video-data animations, netart and soundart.

Director/editor of <artef@ctos virtuales>, one of the first latinamerican virtual spaces devoted to the investigation, development and implementation of web/netart projects [1996-2002]. [ http://www.internet.com.uy/vibri/ ]

From 1999 to 2004 he developed the project [netart_latino database], a territorialized database of latinamerican netartists, among other collaborative art web projects. [http://netart.org.uy/latino/ ].

Has participated as art educator, curator and jury in many international independent and public institutions related to art and new technologies' research and exhibitions. Publishes articles about art based on contemporary technologies. Gives conferences, courses and workshops about these matters in many countries.

His artworks are exhibited in biennales, art festivals and contemporary art exhibitions internationally: Uruguay, Argentina, Mexico, Spain, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, South Korea, Poland, Colombia, Slovenia, etc. They have been cited in many art related publications.

Since 1999 has been working as a Video-Data Jockey designing live projections and real time visual animations for, among others: INNOVA (1999-2002), musicians/DJs Fernando Lagreca, Federico Deutsch, Dj Recycle, Family Doctors (Androoval-Cooptrol-Vince), Dj Campo (Uruguay), Simbad Segui, Tripnik, Jorge Haro, Dj Palacios, Dj Andrés Oddone (Argentina), Chateau Flight (France), DJ ESP-Woody McBride (USA), Dominik Brun del Re aka Person (Spezial Material, Switzerland), rock groups Reverb, Elixir (Argentina), Federico Deutsch & Maveriks (Uruguay), Tavella Outlet (Uruguay) and Bajofondo Tangoclub (Uruguay-Argentina). Between 2004 and 2009, VJ and live visual designer for the concerts and tours of the well known uruguayan rock group El Cuarteto de Nos.

Worked at Centro de Exposiciones - SUBTE, Montevideo (2007-2010), as curator and coordinator of the Art and New Media Program, in charge of Entrevero Virtual [http://etc.uy/entrevero/], a program based on the use of art and new technologies, which adressed the convergence between the exhibition space and its local and global-virtual surroundings. Founder and organizer of dorkbot.mvd [http://dorkbotmvd.etc.uy/], the local version of the international dorkbot events (people doing strange things with electricity) and KILO~CICLO / Arte SonoroVisual [http://etc.uy/kilociclo/], meetings and concerts about experimental sound visual art.

Professor for Digital and Electronic Arts at Fine Arts Institute, University of Uruguay (2010-2011).

From 2010 to 2014, worked as Advisor in charge of the Culture and Technology Programs for the Science and Arts Division, Culture Department of Intendencia de Montevideo (Division in charge of Museums and Scientific Spaces of the City). He designed and developed projects related to the use of new technologies in exhibition spaces, articulated Plan Ceibal programs focalized in children and young users, directed workshops about new technologies applications within exhibition centers for employees of museums and scientific spaces (one of the outcomes was a very well known program called Montevideo de los Niños). He also designed and developed tools for the visualization of culture nodes and territory, and upgraded the communication strategies, standardization of web platforms and internal communication protocols for the Culture Department of Montevideo.
