About

Dr Alan Dunn studied at Glasgow School of Art and The Art Institute of Chicago. He was curator of The Bellgrove Station Billboard Project (Glasgow, 1990-91), lead-artist on the tenantspin project (Foundation for Art & Creative Technology, Liverpool 2001-7) and between 2008-14 he completed a Ph.D. on sound art based on the 10xCD opus The sounds of ideas forming. Through these projects Dunn has developed collaborative content with Bill Drummond, Douglas Gordon, Chris Watson, Yoko Ono, Philip Jeck, Pauline Oliveros and Brian Eno.

Dunn has presented and published works with ICA, Tate Britain, BBC and MIT Press. He currently lives and works in Liverpool and is a Reader in Art & Design at Leeds Beckett University. He is the joint arts editor of the online journal Stimulus Respond, a co-founder of Alternator Studio and Project Space in Birkenhead and was Board Member of East Street Arts (2016-20). He initiated the digital FOUR WORDS project in 2016 and recently curated the 2xLP collection Conversations with the Anthony Burgess cassette archive released on the eminent Belgian label Sub-Rosa. He is currently part of the sonic advisory team for the National Science and Media Museum and between 2020-22 will undertake the AHRC-funded networking event Hear us O Lord from heaven thy dwelling place jointly with Liverpool John Moores University and the Liverpool Maritime Museum.
